Policies & Procedures

Maestro’s School of Music is committed to creating an environment for students, parents/guardians, faculty, staff, and volunteers that is safe, nurturing, empowering, and promotes growth and success. These policies are in place to ensure a positive learning atmosphere where our students can realize the life-long benefits of high-quality music education. MSOM reserves the right to revise its policies at any time, and we will post updated policies on our website. Students and parents/guardians are responsible for familiarizing themselves with these policies and regularly reviewing the School’s website for any updates.

OPEN ENROLLMENT

Students may begin lessons at any time. MSOM schedules private lessons on a first-reserved, first-paid basis. MSOM accepts new students aged 7 through adults for in-person private lessons and online-only private lessons.

FIRST-TIME LESSONS

Private first-time lessons:  New students always begin with an initial lesson before enrolling in private lessons. This initial lesson allows the teacher to assess the student’s level of skill, discuss goals/curriculum, and determine whether the teacher is a good fit for the student. This 30-minute first-time lesson costs $35. You must make payment when you schedule the interview lesson.

The initial lesson fee is nonrefundable. If you need to reschedule a confirmed interview lesson, MSOM requires at least 24 hours advance notice. Missed first-time lessons or first-time lessons canceled within 24 hours of the scheduled time will be rescheduled. After the initial lesson, your teacher will contact you to work out times you’d like to meet for your lessons going forward.

INSTRUMENTS & MATERIALS FOR PRIVATE LESSONS

Private lesson students must have their own instruments for personal practice. If you are not familiar with the instrument, please discuss the student’s needs with the teacher before purchasing or renting an instrument. Contact MSOM office for rental recommendations. Additionally, students need to bring a notebook and proper writing utensils dedicated to the lesson. Each teacher will ask students to purchase workbooks and materials to help further their musical education. MSOM is in partnership with Morgenroth Music and supports buying locally.

THRYV ONLINE ACCOUNT ACCESS

MSOM uses Thryv a proven and user-friendly online platform to help you manage your music lesson schedules, payment method, payments, student documents, assignments, and communications with your teacher(s). Students are responsible for getting in their practice

time before their next lesson. By enrolling in lessons at MSOM, students/parents agree to regularly access the Thryv platform to check their schedule, update payment information, communicate with their teacher, and request rescheduling of banked lessons. If you did not create a Thryv account when submitting an online inquiry, the MSOM office will email you log-in credentials at the time of enrollment. You can access the Thryv platform at https://leads.thryv.com/ or through the widget on the home page (gray floating button on the top right).

TUITION & FEES

Private Lesson Tuition

Monthly Payments – Automatic Billing on Debit or Credit Card

Four 30-minute lessons… $140 per month

Four 60-minute lessons… $240 per month

Monthly tuition gives you four 30 or 60-minute total lessons for the month. You are responsible for scheduling them through the Thryv schedule on our website. Any missed lessons that are communicated before the 24-hour cancellation policy can be rescheduled based on your teacher’s availability. If you know you’re going out of town, for example, keep in mind your package of 4 lessons for the month doesn’t expire for two months. This will give you ample time to reschedule for the following month if needed.

CANCELLATIONS, & USING YOUR CREDITS TO BOOK LESSONS / MAKEUPS

MSOM provides no refunds or credits for missed lessons, except for narrowly defined “excused” absences, or in the unlikely event of a teacher cancellation, or when the Owner closes the School for safety reasons and online lessons are not possible. If you must cancel a lesson in one of the below-defined situations and provide the required advance notice to the office, MSOM will consider the lesson absence to be “excused.” Excused absences are stored as “banked” lessons in the student’s Thryv account for up to 60 days.

Excused absences for private lessons are defined as follows: Student illness, with notice to your teacher before 11 am on the day of the lesson, or by 7pm Friday night for a Saturday morning lesson. Work-related obligation for adult students, with notice to the office before 11 am on the day of the lesson, or by 7 pm Friday night for a Saturday morning lesson. Death in the student’s immediate family, including grandparents, aunts, and uncles. Required school activity or religious holiday, with 7 days advance notice to your teacher In-person students or their parents must contact their teacher regarding any schedule-related questions, lesson cancellations, or rescheduling requests. You can send messages to your teacher via your Thryv account (top widget located on the floating menu on the right). The student or the parent cannot request an online lesson as a substitute for a “last-minute” lesson cancellation or other unexcused absence.

Online-only students or parents should contact their teacher directly in advance of their scheduled lesson time regarding any schedule-related questions, lesson cancellations, or rescheduling requests.

RESCHEDULING MAKE-UP LESSONS

If you request to reschedule a lesson with one of your credits through Thyrv, you should attempt to reschedule the lesson with the teacher as soon as possible. Students are responsible for requesting a makeup lesson time for any remaining credits through Thyrv. If the student has a credit in their account, he or she will be able to choose from a list of the teacher’s available days and times. Credits resulting from a student cancellation that is not rescheduled will expire after 60 days from the date the student purchased the package (not the date the lesson was originally scheduled).

MSOM also schedules regular makeup lessons days before Winter Break and Spring Break, all subject to each teacher’s availability. In-person students may request to reschedule a credit as an online lesson, subject to the teacher’s approval.

TEACHER CANCELLATIONS

MSOM teachers are professional performing musicians, and occasionally, a teacher’s pre-scheduled performances may require an absence from their lesson schedule. Teachers will notify students via email or SMS text in these instances, as soon as possible.  If the student misses a lesson because of a teacher’s absence, MSOM will make every effort to provide a qualified substitute teacher at the scheduled day/time. If this is not possible, MSOM will reschedule the credit from your package (for an in-person or online lesson), or MSOM will process a refund or credit to the account.

SUMMER SCHEDULING

MSOM understands that during the summer, many families have different schedules.  During the months of June, July, and August, MSOM will hold the same policy for packages of 4 lessons purchased. Credits expire after 60 days from purchase.

REQUEST FOR SCHEDULE CHANGE

To request a change to your lesson day, lesson time, or teacher, please communicate with your teacher or view their schedule availability when booking your next lesson through our online booking system.

WEATHER-RELATED CLOSURES

MSOM does not always follow weather-related closures of area school districts. Do not assume that the MSOM is closed if your child’s academic school is closed. Check your email inbox, our Facebook page or call 406-830-1199 to determine whether MSOM is closed for inclement weather.

For in-person lessons, if the Owner closes the building for safety reasons or inclement weather, MSOM will provide an online private lesson at the student’s regularly scheduled time on a per-teacher basis. You will communicate and work this out with your teacher. If the student cannot access technology or internet service for an online lesson, the student or parent is responsible for rescheduling the lesson through your account portal.  If the student does not reschedule the lesson within 60 days, the credit for that lesson will expire, and MSOM will not provide a refund or credit.

For online-only students, even if the MSOM building is closed due to the weather, online lessons will be held as scheduled.
